Latest News From Together

Thanks to the Together Team for sending through an update of what they’ve been up to and what’s coming up. It’s reproduced below without any editorial changes.

Note that there is a workshop being held next Wednesday (at the cricket club) and a general public meeting (at the Winter Gardens) on 14th September (details of both at the bottom).

together logoAs a team we are currently getting our foundations in place, to ensure that this project is a success for the community. The timing has taken us longer than we wanted due typically to holidays.

We would like to thank the Town Council for its generous £1000 award to this project. This will cover start up costs and enable us to apply for charitable status once the constitution has been ratified at a public meeting.

Currently the Together bank account holds:
£1000 from the Town Council
£100 from the Inner Circle
£150 from the Rose Inn
We are awaiting the results of other appropriate grant applications.

We have a public meeting planned for 6.45 pm to 9.00 pm on September 14th in the ground cafe area of Winter Gardens, where we will bring everyone up to date.

1. Better Communication. Ensuring that the community of Ventnor is provided with up to date, relevant information through various mediums to inform by every available means, i.e.

VentnorBlog, My Space, The Chronicle, Community Notice Boards.

We have identified and received clearance for the use of three definite sites; we are looking for a volunteer to maintain the information displays. Establishing display information content etc will form part of one of the planned workshops.

2. More Community involvement. To involve members of the community in all stages of problem resolution, event management, promoting and enjoying Ventnor.

Ventnor Youth Cafe, we are delighted that Amy Morris has nearly completed her proposal for such a centre. We have identified a possible venue for this.

3. Cross Generational Integration. Bring together the all generational sections of the community in order to realise the true values and potentials of all. This will progress as the project progresses.

4. Reducing the fear of crime. By involving the local community and addressing their concerns in partnership with them and the appropriate agencies.

Coordinators identified and a call for volunteers will be going out for both:

Ventnor Viewers and Shop Watch

5. Problem Solving. Allowing the problems of the community to be managed or solved by multi agencies working within the community, utilising the skills of its people. By removing the barriers of communication.

6. Workshops. The project will be running workshops, to which all members of the Partnership are invited.
