An information evening will be hosted jointly between the Isle of Wight Council, Cowes Town Council and members of the local community, where a new supporters group at Cowes Library will be set up.
Residents of Cowes and users of the library are invited to come and find out more on 14th September at 7pm, Cowes Library, Beckford Road, Cowes.
Find out more about volunteering
The evening will offer information about the opportunity to formally volunteer to work within the library as a volunteer supported and trained by the IW Council alongside IW Council employed library staff.
There will also be the opportunity to join the newly formed Cowes Library Supporters Group. This group will aim to promote and protect Cowes Library and, working with the Library Service, improve and develop the service to users based on local needs and priorities. The evening will give interested parties the opportunity to find out more about either of these roles.
Fantastic chance to get involved
We plan to formally constitute the Cowes Library Supporters Group on 14th September and hope new members of the community will sign up to this group.
“We have been delighted to see that Cowes Library has remained open for four days a week” says Town Mayor Cllr Rebecca McGregor. “The new supporters group will give local residents a fantastic chance to get more involved in their local library and to ensure that it truly meets the needs of the population of Cowes, working closely with the existing library staff. The formation of this group has been the result of local residents coming forward and showing their passion for their local library.”
The new supporters group is a result of joint working between the local community, Cowes Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council.
