Tonight’s Cafe Scientifique talk takes place from 7pm at Shanklin Conservative Club and features Dr Sarah Paynter from English Heritage’s Fort Cumberland.
Dr Paynter will be talking about ‘Detective Work on the Iron Age’. Iron deteriorates so how do you accurately reconstruct how Iron Age people exploited iron?
Sarah is a materials scientist by training specialising in high temperature processes from the past, including metal smelting and working, glass and pottery production; she also analyses with specialist equipment archaeological finds and objects from collections or buildings.
