Les Payne @ Quay

Les Payne is a musician who has played more than 5000 gigs, but even though he is Island born, has never played on the Isle of Wight.

Les Payne @ QuayVic King, promoter for Vaguely Sunny was spurred on by this fact and managed to talk Quay Arts into hoting his premier gig on the Island in the Anthony Minghella Theatre.

The legend will be accompanied by Pete West on guitar and his son, Crispin Payne, on percussion.

Not satisfied with having his premier gig at Quay Arts, Les will also be making it the new home for his ‘Harp Beat Rock Award’. He was one of 21 artists, including music legends Simon and Garfunkel, Elvis Presley and Tom Jones to be awarded this in 1991.

According to the press release, Les’ career in rock music has resembled a real life version of ‘Crocodile Shoes’. Les wrote all the songs on his album, including the reflective My Minds Like A Photograph, which looks back at four decades. Somewhere In The World has a Pegasus audience on backing vocals, and the emotive Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, expresses the lifelong interest that Les has held for North American Indians.

Ticket will cost you £10 (or £9 concessions), bar opens at 7pm, gig starts at 8pm.
