If you’re a parent pulling your hair out at the end of the first week of the school holidays, worry not, for there’s a great place in Shanklin that might just be the answer to your dreams.
The YMCA at Winchester House (just before the bridge over to Lake) is the venue for a school playscheme that offers tons of things for kids to do in the hols.
Each day is pre-planned for the entirety of the holidays and as a example, here’s what’s planned for week three (media week), starting Monday 6th August.
Monday: News Bulletin, bouncy ball games, scavenger hunt, catch your own shadow
Tuesday: ‘The Daily Rag’ – be a journalist, be an editor, produce your own newspaper, fashion show, garden games
Wednesday: Swimming pool fun, he he, ha, ha – the comedy club, radio dj (host your own radio show)
Thursday: Light, camera, action – make your own movie, Camera’s rolling – film your production, 1,2,3 in and other games
Friday: Body painting muriel, sun prints – photography, afternoon at the movies, making bean people
Your kids can attend for half day or full day and are sure to have a brilliant time. As well as that, they’ll have a chance to meet kids from other parts of the Island too – leaving you to get on with whatever it is you have to do.
