I am a resident of Godshill and my children attend Godshill primary school. With the Arreton road closure we have a large increase in traffic, including HGVs. This is inevitable and of course, it will be the other way around when Godshill is re-surfaced.
However, we have no road crossings to get our children to school or the elderly to cross the road. Our road is narrower and there is no pavement in the main village which is busy with people on holiday.
To compound the problem they have now not allowed parking along the main part of Newport Road, making the traffic speed up, not just ‘flow better’.
Speed sign not working
The illuminated speed sign outside the school is off. I have contacted Island Roads and they said it is fixed, but still as of yesterday morning, it was not and they have no explanation.
I have asked for a temporary 20mph speed limit and temporary crossings, no response given.
When vehicles pass pedestrians, particularly HGVs, they are too close, dust and dirt is thrown up from the road and into our eyes, it is very unpleasant and scary.
Previous incident with HGV
As my wife was struck on the pavement in Godshill, by a staples HGV and dragged into the road in December she is finding it almost impossible to make the journey.
Driving up is not a realistic option as many people have to drive and spaces are nearly impossible to obtain, now made impossible by the new ‘no parking’ bollards.
Please can someone on the council or within Island Roads do something about this.
