Letter: Is the proposed tidal energy scheme a hoax?

In 1995 Isle of Wight council and contractor Highpoint Rendell along with Geoffrey Osbourne Ltd embarked on a multi million pound venture to stabilise 15km of ‘landslip’ coastline. The works carried out delivered a solid foundation.

At Steephill Cove much work was carried out that would ensure the success of Southern Water’s consolidation plan that tied the Island’s waste water management infrastructure in with Southampton’s.

The project was breathtakingly huge. The waste water pipes are big enough to drive a car through! This is no lie. Or fantasy. It happened.

So. Now some bright sparks want to put a substation on top, but not for waste water turbine technology. For some ‘loosely-fitted’ tidal scheme.

Is it a hoax? Or just a con?

We should be getting revenues from energy produced there and it won’t be tidal, but it will be big.
