From: Marcia Forsyth-Grant, Ventnor
During the ten years I was running the Picardie Hotel (I retired two years ago), the Newport Councillors have tried to eliminate their responsibility for maintaining the public toilets on the island, claiming lack of funding, etc.
As hotel operators and tourist services providers, we all (particularly David Grocock (St Maur) and Sandy at the Eversley) protested at the stupidity of the proposed action and its effects on the welfare of residents and visitors.
Council blame government
Now, once more, the Council, who receive our domestic and business rates, have taken the opportunity to blame the Government and the recession to close the toilets, the libraries, the lifesaving services on the beaches, and the many other services we pay for.
Have we seen any top jobs bite the dust as yet?
Bring back spend a penny
What’s wrong with bringing back ‘spend a penny’ slots on WC doors? The collectors of Parking Meter money could also pop in to the loos as well, and collect that money!
The charming driver of the Tesco delivery van told me how embarrassing this is to every visitor to Ventnor, and the need to ‘go’ when they have to go.
Time for a common sense solution.
