Cowes RNLI get involved in search for Guy Ebsworth. Ed
A Cowes lifeboat crew spent several hours afloat yesterday (Wednesday), first to search for a person possibly lost in the River Medina and then to tow to safety a disabled speedboat in the Solent.
Fears that a person might have fallen into the river arose after it was reported that a man had not been seen since 8th August.
His home was apparently a boat on the shore at Little London, Newport.
At Solent coastguards’ request, Cowes lifeboat searched the entire four and half miles of river stretching from Cowes. Meanwhile the river banks were combed by both the police and coastguards from Newport and Ventnor. No sign of the man, however, was found.
Onto the next job
But instead of then returning to its berth at Shepards Wharf the lifeboat, with Gary Payne at the helm, was tasked to go to the aid of a speedboat.
The Phantom 18, with the Sandown owner and two other men on board, had lost its steering off Gurnard, and was being towed by a Dutch yacht. The lifeboat took over the tow and brought the speedboat into Cowes.
