If you’re into The Arts, there are lots of great things going on at Quay Arts in the next month.
January kicks off with a new exhibition by Island artist, Babs Gowan.
All are invited to the preview which takes place this Saturday (14th) between 1.30 – 3pm.
In this recent body of work, Babs explores themes of landscape, texture and memory. The relationship between ceramics and painting is evident as the ceramic surfaces are scratched and inlaid with metal oxides, and 2D work refers to the rich textures and depth achieved in clay.
Sixth form response
Also opening this week, with preview on Friday between 3pm-4.30pm will be Urban Wastelands: A Response in the Learning Curve Gallery.
It’s an exhibition devised by students from the Island Innovation VI Form Campus (the joint sixth form of Carisbrooke College and Medina College) working with artist Chris Jenkins.
Quay Arts is a member organisation of the Island Innovation Trust, alongside The University of Portsmouth, IW NHS Primary Care Trust, The Quarr Group, Yokogawa Marex Ltd and Solo. It runs until 25 February.
Free artist talk
The following weekend, artist Day Bowman will be giving a free talk discussing her latest exhibition, The Urban Wastelands Project.
The exhibition combines the work of Day, alongside award-winning film maker, Ian Knox, and music by internationally acclaimed music group Transglobal Underground, as a finale event on Friday 3rd February.
