The Macnaughton-Howe Arts and Craft Festival Association
2006 Exhibition – 11th & 12 May 2006
Every May for the last 50 years, Ventnor has held its own Arts and Craft Festival down at the Winter Gardens. It started with very traditional offerings of paintings, sewing and knitting etc, but today it also attracts entries in many of the new arts and crafts. Alongside tapestries and watercolour paintings, local “arty and crafty types are exhibiting wonderful photography, including classes for the art of digital enhancement.
The Computer Art class is now reaching an incredible standard. Last year was particularly stunning with the vibrant wall hangings made in the local community run classes. It is clear that there is a staggering amount of local amateur talent in the Ventnor district. There are many classes for young folk and schools.
- Classes in Needlework, embroidery, tapestry, knitting, toy and model-making, Handicrafts, Decoupage, Calligraphy, Art, Computer art, Art of many sorts , Photography of all sorts, Poetry etc
- There is even a class for anyone who wants to display any of their art or craft “just for the hell of it.
- To keep it exclusive, it is only open to amateurs living within a five mile radius from Ventnor’s Salisbury Gardens.
- Entry fees are very reasonable and as they say in the ad, Winning an award is – “pricelessâ€?. Many trophies and prizes
- Entry forms containing the rules of the festival are available from Rainbows in Pier Street or from 32 South St Ventnor (853843) and must be returned with fees by 9th May 2006.
Macnaughton and Howe were two great benefactors, who started and supported this festival for the people of the district, and the Association continues their work in the hope that every one will wish to display their talent. This is not for the professionals – this is the people’s festival.
See you there … Greenboy
