The final phase of the scheme will initially involve works to Main Road, Brighstone (from east of the junction with Broad Lane towards Upper Lane).
Road closure
During this time a small section of Main Road will be closed for two weeks from January 5th to through traffic, to allow the works to take place. Any changes to the Southern Vectis service as a result of the works will be circulated by Southern Vectis.
Following the reopening of Main Road, works will continue until the end of January 2016 with two way lights.
The alternative route for vehicles during the works will be; B3399 Limerstone Road, Walkers Lane, Main Road, Shorwell Shute, Cheverton Shute, Bowcombe Road and Clatterford Road, B3401 High Street (Carisbrooke), Calbourne Road, Sun Hill and Freshwater Road, B3399 Shalcombe Road, Brook Road, Brook Shute, Brighstone Road, Hunny Hill and Main Road.
Works postponed due to Christmas Tree Festival
The second part, upon the reopening of Main Road, will involve works to complete the part of the scheme at North Street junction with Upper Lane.
These works involve hand digging around heavily congested utility services and were temporarily ceased in mid-December to minimise any disruption to the village’s popular Christmas tree festival.
Parish Councillor John Cirrone said:
“Communications for the drainage scheme have been great throughout. Island Roads have been very amenable and considerate to the popular Christmas Tree Festival.”
Access for residents
Residents within the closure have been advised that vehicular and pedestrian access to frontages will be maintained throughout both sections of the work, as far as possible. The drainage scheme is on schedule to complete at the end of January.
Island Roads scheme engineer, Jason Boulter said:
“We are very grateful to residents for their patience and understanding whilst we complete the last sections of this 12 week major drainage scheme.
“The scheme, once completed, will give the drains additional capacity and more resilience against the build-up of silt which should help to reduce the historical problems of highway flooding in this area.”
