Man arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, burglary and kidnap: Can you help Police?

Officers have been making enquiries in the Newport area in relation to a burglary series.

The incidents we are investigating are as follows:

  • Overnight on 28th May, a warehouse unit was broken into on Riverway, Newport.
  • At around 11pm on 30th May, a residential address was broken into on Riverway, Newport. Threats were made towards the occupants, and cash and mobile phones were stolen.
  • Attempted break-in at an address on Whitcombe Road, Newport, reported to police at 11.20am on Thursday 3rd June.
  • Aggravated burglary at an address on Nunnery Lane, Newport, between 2.45am and 4am on Friday 4th June. Threats were made towards the occupants, who were then made to drive to a cashpoint to withdraw money.

25-year-old arrested
Following enquiries, a 25-year-old man, of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, burglary and kidnap. He remains in custody at this time.

The kidnap element relates to the allegation that the victims in the Nunnery Lane incident were made to drive to a cashpoint.

As part of this investigation, we are also looking at suspicious incidents reported in the Marvel Lane and Whitcombe Road areas on 2nd and 3rd June whereby a man has attended addresses asking for clothing and water.
