Man in ‘sexually motivated’ police impersonation case bailed

Police share this update. Ed

Officers have bailed a 58-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a female, until October 18, 2016.

The man was arrested in connection with two suspicious incidents on the Isle of Wight on Saturday (Aug 20), in which a man allegedly approached teenage girls in East Cowes and in Freshwater, claiming to be a police officer.

We are continuing to investigate both incidents and we would like to remind parents, carers and young people on the Isle of Wight to remain alert. Our advice to children is always to avoid talking to strangers.

We would also like to remind children that a genuine police officer would always show his or her warrant card.

Dog walkers still sought
We continue to appeal to a couple who were in East Cowes on Saturday to come forward, as we believe they could be key witnesses.

The man and woman were walking a white dog in the cemetery on Kingston Road between 8pm and 9pm; they may have seen the man and have important information that could assist with our investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Isle of Wight Investigation Team on 101 and quote 44160313360.
