Our thoughts are with the driver involved who sustained serious life threatening injuries. Ed
Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious crash in Blackwater on the Isle of Wight in which a man was seriously injured.
Officers were called to the A3020 Blackwater Hollow shortly after 1am on Thursday, September 30, following reports of a car colliding with a tree.
It is believed that a Ford Focus ST was travelling towards Rookley when it left the road to the off-side on a left-hand bend, hit a tree and spun 180 degrees before coming to rest on the verge with the tree on top of it.
A 30-year-old man from Ventnor, who was identified to police as the driver, sustained serious, life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at St Mary’s Hospital.
He is currently in a critical but stable condition.
A 23-year-old man also from Ventnor who identified himself as the passenger, sustained minor injuries and was also treated at St Mary’s Hospital but was later released.
Appeal for witnesses
Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the car prior to the crash or the crash itself.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Bob Hammersley, at the Roads Policing Unit in Shanklin, quoting Operation Cendal, on 101.
