A revised planning application to convert former public toilets in Ventnor into a residential property have been lodged with the Isle of Wight council.
The Market Street toilets in Ventnor were closed in 2011 by the former Conservative council during their first big round of cuts.
Sale agreed for £80,000
The site has laid empty ever since, but in September members of the Property Disposal Sub Committee agreed to sell the freehold interest in the site. The figure agreed for the sale was £80,000.
The application would see the site in use again, but as a two-bedroom private residential dwelling. Rather than demolish and rebuild, the ground floor will remain in place with an additional storey added.
Creative use of former loos
There have been some great examples of former toilets being re-purposed in Ventnor.
The Bath Road toilets are now residential accommodation and the Wheelers Bay toilets are now run as The Seapot Cafe.
Have your say
The deadline for public comments, which can be added online, is 19th December.
As far as the future of other public toilets goes, the Executive have agreed to consult on a Community Toilet Scheme. It could see council run toilets close, but also see more businesses opens their (toilet) doors to the public.
Update 28.1.2015
The sale of the toilets for £80,000 has now completed and planning permission granted.
