As we all know, the Isle of Wight is a magnet for cycling buffs who come every year to take in the natural beauty of the Island whilst enjoying their favourite pastime, cycling.
Matt Harris is one of those keen cyclists, but he has the advantage of living here, so can enjoy Island cycling as often as he likes.
Good result in first race
A couple of weeks ago he took part in his first race, the Ten Mile TT by the Fareham Wheelers, at Wickham.
“It was freezing cold and windy,” he tells us and he was up against a small but quality field, two of which were Simon Tout and Steve Walking of VC St Raphael (both fast men, winning high profile races up and down the country).
Matt say, “Well, I didn’t win, I didn’t expect to, but I came in behind these two in third place and picked up second place prize also.”
Matt of the Hills Blog
Taking part and doing so well in the race meant that Matt got a mention in VELOUK – an online national/international magazine.
He told OnTheWight, “Not a bad result for the first race of the season, considering these guys would usually put a minute into me. All the training pays off! Next race is on the 29th, Good Friday on the A3 held by a3crg 10 mile TT. Should get a good result there too as it’s my team’s home turf”
Matt has recently started a blog (MattoftheHills) where you can find out more about his cycling exploits.
