‘Men Only’ Walk and Talk session aimed at helping improve Isle of Wight men’s mental health

Men Only is a peer-led initiative to support men and raise awareness of men’s mental health issues. Men Only are based in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

On Sunday 5th September, we will be holding our first ever Men Only Walk and Talk meeting. There has never been a better time to raise awareness around men’s mental health, and we are so grateful to all those that have chosen to support us in this initiative.

A mission to support men
Men Only have a mission to support men, whether they need some advice or just the space to talk. We intend to create a peer group to help men prevent mental health problems proactively rather than reactively.

We are inviting Island men to join us for this, our first Sunday afternoon session. We are also making walking buddies available on the walk to ensure we create a non-judgmental environment and opportunity to share and offload, which is the purpose of the Men Only Walk and Talk Sessions.

A chance to open up
We know how much easier it is for some men to open up when they are out and about. Peer-led guidance will allow them to hear how other men in similar situations have worked their way through the darkness.

We are confident that making the opportunity to share, either by talking, listening, or simply by experiencing their value, will allow them to be themselves, share experiences and emotions without judgment and learn that it is OK not to be OK and it’s OK to feel emotional.

Make new friends
Men only aim to provide all men with the opportunity to make new friends. We will strive to end the social stigma of mental health and the loneliness many men experience.
