Met Office issued weather warning for more icy conditions

As well as the Severe Cold Weather Warning issued by the Met Office yesterday, they have today (Tuesday) issued a yellow ‘Be Alert’ warning for the Isle of Wight for ice.

Valid from 6pm on Tuesday to 10am on Wednesday, the latest warning reads:

Following the recent very wet weather, sub-zero temperatures overnight will mean that any water seeping onto roads will continue to freeze, leading to icy stretches, particularly, but not exclusively on untreated surfaces.

Ice is likely to cause difficult driving conditions overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

What to expect

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Roads gritted
The Island Roads gritters were out on roads from 7pm on Monday night and again at 5am this morning, but some drivers still found conditions difficult on Monday night, so caution if driving or cycling is advised.
