Dark and raining day through a window

Met Office say heavy rain and strong winds to continue as new weather warning issued

Alongside strong winds, the rain has been lashing down overnight, and according to the Met Office, it’s set to continue through the week.

They have issued a ‘Be Alert’ weather warning which runs from 5pm on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday and reads:

“Following heavy showers on Wednesday, a band of heavy rain will move northeastwards on Wednesday evening, followed by further heavy showers overnight.

“15 to 25 mm rain is likely to fall widely, with 30 to 40 mm in a few places over a 12 hour period.

“With the ground already saturated, this may lead to some flooding. Strong winds are also likely, with gusts 40 to 50 mph possible along coasts.

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
