The Met Office has escalated the heat-health warning to amber status, effective from 9am this morning, Friday, 9th June.
This alert will remain in place until 9am on Monday, 12th June, particularly focusing on the South-East region of England.
What is an amber heat health warning?
An amber warning is a significant indicator, suggesting that the imminent hot weather has the potential to affect the entire population, spanning all age groups.
It’s worth noting that those aged over 65, or those who have pre-existing health issues such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, are especially at risk during this period.
Indoor heat
Furthermore, there’s an anticipated increase in the warmth of indoor environments, which could exacerbate the discomfort for many.
Predictions for the coming days indicate a broad rise in temperatures, attributed to winds originating from a more southerly direction.
More humid
The conditions are also expected to become progressively humid, and the light winds forecast for the weekend are likely to result in uncomfortable overnight temperatures.
Indeed, the Met Office anticipates that the minimum temperatures over the weekend will be in the mid to high-teens, which will undoubtedly result in discomfort for many.
Thus, it’s advisable for everyone to take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated during this unusually warm period.
