Let’s hope the sea is not as choppy over night as it has been today. Read on for details from the Hampshire Constabulary of a charity swim around the Island by Met Police. Ed
Daring police officers will be swimming around the Isle of Wight to raise money to help save the life of an eight-year-old cancer sufferer.
The Metropolitan Police Officers – Jon Benton, Will Hughes, Emma Coppin, John Caulfield, Mark Rayworth, Mike Delaney, Tim Pockney and Andy Pryke were moved by the plight of little Robyn Higgins whose dad Greg Higgins is a serving officer in Hackney.
They will take the plunge at 3am tomorrow (15 Sept) swimming a 64-mile relay around the island without wetsuits.
Robyn’s family are trying to raise £300,000 for preventative antibody treatment given with Retinoic Acid for the little girl who was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma in May 2009.
The 140-day course is not currently available in the UK.
The team is raising money for Robyn through a charity called The 2Simple Trust which helps parents and families raise money to support the treatment of children suffering from this aggressive form of childhood cancer.
Anyone wishing to sponsor the team or donate to Robyn’s appeal can do so online.
