An announcement has just been made at the Cabinet meeting that Isle of Wight Council (IWC) have decided to _not_ close the Military Road at Brook in the immediate future, as was recommended in the Cabinet papers.
Cllr Eddie Giles told the meeting that the IWC would be taking another look at the situation and speaking to landowners about various options.
This will be welcome news, not only for those living in Brook and the surrounding villages, but also the tourist industry on the Island.
During the discussion at the Cabinet meeting Cllr Abraham told his fellow Cabinet members “The road is Iconic. The thought of losing it is so awful, we must go that extra step to try and save it.”
Cllr Brown also told the meeting that the PFI bidders had used photos of the road and Cllr Barry shared some history, telling the meeting that his Dad helped build the road.
More news as we get it, but for now the future of the road is safe whilst a consultation on future options takes place.
