Damien Nettles:

Mother of missing teenager responds to latest police news

Further to the release issued by Hampshire Constabulary on the case of the disappearance of Cowes teenager Damien Nettles, the Nettles family give their view on the news.

Damien’s mother Valerie, said,

“We have been assured that Damien’s case is not closed and never will be closed. All new information, they assure me, will be investigated and the case will undergo periodic reviews and a new senior investigating officer is to be appointed.

“We have mixed feelings at the change in senior investigating officer, however fresh eyes on this case must be viewed as positive. We are appreciative of the work done in the past couple of years in an effort to solve this case. The case remains with the MIT.

“Although the police tell me that they are confident that all open lines of inquiry have been investigated, we as a family are still concerned that some information, which has been dismissed as ‘unreliable’ or from ‘an unreliable source’, is in our mind still unresolved.

“We are not convinced and we are left wondering if our son’s body is buried somewhere on the Island waiting to be found. We are very concerned about the initial handling of this case and have to wonder if this case had been taken seriously in the very beginning, would we have had some resolution by now?

“This is still a missing persons case and as such we will continue to search for Damien until we find a result.”
