Further to the news last month that Isle of Wight MP had set up a new industry group, details of the first meeting have been announced. This in from his office, in their own words. Ed
Island businesses involved in advanced electronics and engineering have expressed an interest in joining a new industry group initiated by the Island’s MP Andrew Turner.
It has been set up following feedback from a number of companies who feel they share the same problems and challenges and would benefit from sharing information and ideas.
Geoff Underwood, Managing Director of In-flight Peripherals has agreed to chair the first meeting which will be held at 2pm on Wednesday 15th August at In-flight Peripherals offices, Elm Lane, Calbourne.
Interested in joining?
Mr Turner is now seeking details of other local businesses that may be interested in joining the group.
Mr. Turner said, “We have many successful businesses here on the Island involved in electronics and high end engineering. A number have said that they would like a forum where they could exchange information and ideas. For example some have already told me that they have found problems in finding suitably qualified local people to fill vacancies – so among other things that will be discussed at the first meeting.
“I hope that we can find ways of working together so that such vacancies can be filled by Islanders, rather than getting people to move here from the mainland.”
Raise issues with Government
He went on to say, “Where it is appropriate I will get information and raise issues with the Government or other organisations and agencies. I hope local companies will find this new group useful.
“I will not be setting the agenda, but responding to issues raised by businesses and giving whatever support I can to the group. Anyone interested in coming along on 15th August should contact my office to confirm their attendance.”
