The Isle of Wight singer-songwriter, Ben Stubbs, has crafted a new collection of songs after years of dedicated work. His new album, ‘Light of My Life,’ is a compelling anthology, brimming with warmth and vibrancy.
Since resuming his songwriting career in 2019, Stubbs has meticulously refined this ten-track collection that provides a window into his reflections on life. He explores themes of escape, nostalgia, acceptance of the past, and the realities of ageing, capturing his journey towards self-acceptance and contentment.
“Stop the world, I’m getting off”
The album kicks off with a highly lyrical track that conveys Stubbs’s distinctive talent. The sentiment, “Stop the world, I’m getting off”, immediately reveals the reflective and personal nature of the songs that follow.
Listeners are then treated to an array of styles, from upbeat country-inspired tracks like “Live and Let Live”, to the more introspective songs like the title track “Light of My Life”. There are also blues-infused cinematic pieces such as “Raised By Man”.
Kickstarter funded
Stubbs’s project has already generated considerable local attention.
In fact, the album owes its existence partly to his devoted fans who supported its production via a Kickstarter campaign.
Recorded at Empire Sound studio
The songs were recorded over a fortnight at the Empire Sound studio on the Island, with a team of talented local musicians who have since become Stubbs’s friends and bandmates.
Following the recording, the album was mixed and then mastered in London by Tim Debney, preparing it for release.
