These famous Moravian sisters, Marianne and Clara, played for Queen Victoria several times and it was for them that Saint-Saens wrote his Fantaisie in 1907, perhaps the best piece for violin and harp.
Afternoon concert
Frances Mason, violin, and Jenny Broome, harp, will be performing an entertaining programme starting at 2.30 on 29th November at St. Mary’s Church, High Street, Ryde, including the Saint-Saens Fantaisie and other works which would have been performed by the sisters, and including a few literary excerpts to set the scene.
Frances first performed on the Isle of Wight in the 1960s when she won the National Federation of Music Society’s prize and played a concerto with the IW orchestra (she remembers as being the Arthur Dunford Chamber Orchestra at the time).
This began a lifetime of love for the Island, where she spends a lot of her time, and she has played many times here, notably performing a complete cycle of Bach’s solo partitas in 2000 (with James Halsey performing all the Bach Cello Suites).
Friday night concert
Jenny is also featuring in the Harp on Wight Festival both, coaching harp students and performing with her Harp duet, Archangeli (with harpist Helena de Rijke) at 7.30 tonight (Friday 28th November ) at Ryde Methodist Church.
