East Cowes will see the return of its much-loved carnival after nearly three decades, thanks to the dedication of a team of volunteers and the new chair of the East Cowes Carnival Committee, Carrie Lacey.
Carrie, who has lived in East Cowes for over 35 years, is no stranger to the carnival scene. She participated in the last East Cowes carnival in 1995 and has remained deeply connected to the tradition ever since.
A family tradition
Reflecting on her family’s involvement, Carrie said,
“Both of my children have regularly participated in carnivals, and we love spending family time in different island towns at the carnivals over the summer.”
The announcement of the carnival’s return has sparked excitement within the community. Carrie highlighted the passion shown by local residents during recent meetings, saying,
“After the last couple of meetings and witnessing first-hand the enthusiasm and desire to get a carnival back to East Cowes, I have no doubts that, with a lot of hard work and volunteers, this community will put on a day to remember.”
Save the Date: Saturday 23rd August 2025
Plans are now underway for the big day. Mark your calendars for Saturday, 23rd August 2025, when East Cowes will host its first carnival in 30 years.
Carrie described the event as a special moment for the town, dubbing it “East Cowes Carnival Day.”
How you can get involved
The committee is eager to gather support from the community and will hold its first fundraising meeting on Monday 16th December. The meeting will take place at the Pavilion in East Cowes from 6pm, and everyone is welcome to attend.
With the return of this cherished tradition, East Cowes residents are set to create a vibrant and memorable event that will bring the community together once more.
