New deadline to have your say on ExxonMobil’s CO2 pipeline across the Isle of Wight

Exxonmobil have extended the public consultation they are currently running, seeking permission to install an underground pipeline to transport CO2 to a permanent storage location in the English Channel.

The consultation was due to close on Thursday 12th September, but has been extended to 6pm on Monday 30th September 2024.

There are two routes proposed as possible options for the underground pipeline: one which cuts across the Island from North to South, and the other travels North to West.

Island-wide opposition
Little Atherfield resident Christopher Davis’s plea on Change.org warns the project would leave a “massive scar” across the Island.

The petition he created has attracted more than 28,000 signatures in opposition of the plans.

Isle of Wight council members, Nick Stuart and Claire Critchinson, have set up an campaign group, with a small committee on 11th September. The first meeting will make plans and organise for a wider public meeting for when the campaign gets fully underway.

Have your say

The final consultation meeting on the Island takes place on Tuesday 3rd September between 10.30am and 6.30pm, at Phoenix Knights Centre, Cockleton Lane, Cowes PO31 8QE.
