Local charity Independent Arts is proud to unveil the afterWARds exhibition at the Museum of Island History located at the Guildhall, Newport.
AfterWARds is an intergenerational creative arts project designed to enhance public understanding of the impact of war on the lives of service personnel.
Supporting veterans and soldiers
Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant, the project has supported veterans and soldiers that are currently serving to share their experiences of war and to communicate to the public the areas of their past which often do not have an outlet.
During reminiscence sessions, participants have been encouraged to share their memories and pass on messages to future generations through video diaries and creatively written pieces.
Unfolding the effects of war
The diverse collection of experiences aims to unfold the challenges and effects of war on military personnel from WWII to Afghanistan.
The charity has invited a number of talented local artists to bring some of these fascinating stories to life through a broad range of creative media formats.
Runs until 6th May
The collection of visual art, video diaries, poetry, music, and memoir excerpts are available to view at the afterWARds exhibition from Saturday 23rd April until Friday 6th May (closed Sundays). Entry is free and suitable for all ages.
