A new initiative has been launched to help small market traders on the Isle of Wight to spread the cost of buying a gazebo over ten months, with easy interest free monthly payments.
Market Days CIC was set up as a not-for-profit company that aims to bring back market trading to the historic county town of Newport on the Isle of Wight and works in partnership with many organisations across the town.
Their latest initiative aims to help people who may be struggling to set up a small craft or produce business to buy equipment for taking part in markets, shows and craft fairs.
Spread cost of gazebo over ten months
By teaming up with Cherry Godfrey, Market Days CIC is helping small traders to spread the cost of buying a gazebo over ten months with easy interest free monthly payments.
This really takes the burden off people who are just starting out and gives entrepreneurs a way to reduce the set-up costs of getting started in retail or market trading.
What is Cherry Godfrey?
Cherry Godfrey is a family run business that opened a branch in the Isle of Wight in 2021 and offers unique Island finance products that are well researched and good value-for-money with quality customer service always at the forefront.
The company quickly became involved in projects that aim to make positive change in Newport and its director sits on the Shaping Newport steering group helping to work towards bringing about initiatives that make a difference to the regeneration of our county town.
This initiative is one of their loans and joins an extensive range of products that are delivered in partnership with charities and Isle of Wight businesses.
Kennard: We try to make it as easy as possible
Claire Kennard from Market Days CIC said,
“Market Days CIC was set up with the objective of creating economic opportunities for people in Newport and the Isle of Wight by supporting those who are just starting out in their self-employment journey. Sometimes it’s really hard to cover all the initial costs of getting set up and so we try to make it as easy as possible.
“Starting out with a market stall is a tried and tested way of building a business from the ground up and so for those either looking for some extra part time income or hoping to grow into a retail empire this initiative with Cherry Godfrey is a fantastic opportunity to buy a Gazebo and other equipment and jump straight in!”
Tapsell: A feeling of shared responsibility and ownership
Andrew Tapsell of Cherry Godfrey said,
“I always believe in supporting local business, by doing so, you’re directly putting money back into your own community.
“You’re funding great ideas and ventures and there’s a feeling of shared responsibility and ownership when you support an independent business.
“We at Cherry Godfrey are proud to be working with Market Days CIC offering the opportunity to spread the cost of start up costs and allowing for the growth of more independent businesses”
Why do we believe in bringing back the market to Newport?
Markets are places full of life and connection and vibrancy where you can directly support your local producers and makers.
If you feel strongly about shopping local than where better than at a market where you can buy produce straight from the grower or maker?
Recovering from the pandemic
We feel that providing a bustling and busy environment at the heart of Newport is especially important at this time where the town is suffering from the loss of many of the large national retailers following the Covid pandemic.
We can’t easily bring the shops back to Newport, but we can provide market events in the squares. By supporting traders to get set up we hope that we will be part of making opportunities across the Isle of Wight.
Markets at the centre of community since 12th century
Newport is a historic town and markets have been at the centre of its community since the 12th century when Richard de Redvers, the first feudal baron of Plympton, granted the town a market in 1884.
It is a important part of the town’s history and we believe Newport has lost it heart without it.
Reconnect with each other in the fresh air
Shopping outside is a safe alternative for people who may be hesitant about returning to busy indoor spaces after the long periods of lock down and gives people a chance to start to reconnect with each other in the fresh air.
