Thanks to Deborah for sharing this latest news from Daisy Chains IW. Ed
Local children’s charity Daisy Chains IW which supports Island children with long-term health problems, serious life-limiting conditions and disabilities is opening a cafe in Sandown for young children and their families.
Kids Cafe in Sandown High Street will open its doors for the first time to the public at a grand opening on Monday 5th October.
Pre-launch events
The charity will also be holding a pre-launch event this Friday (2nd October) for all the businesses and individuals who have helped get the project off the ground, along with a pre-launch party on Saturday 3rd October with face painting and entertainment for the children and families Daisy Chains IW helps.
The cafe will be a fun, colourful place where young children and their families can visit, have a drink, enjoy a snack, get stuck into a delicious slice of homemade cake or have a spot of lunch while relaxing in a safe, enjoyable environment.
Soft play and toy area
For the under fives, there is a fantastic soft play and toy area located to the rear of the cafe. Designed with safety at the forefront, the area has multi-coloured soft foam bricks and a ball pool pit.
It also boasts train sets, chalkboards, colouring-in and Duplo as well as a whole host of other popular toys.
Hub for families
Mandy Fuller from Daisy Chains IW said:
“We are thrilled to announce the opening of Kids Cafe in Sandown. We help local children that have been diagnosed with a life-changing illness, disability or long-term health problem to access the specialist equipment and therapies they need.
“Our new cafe will help raise much-needed funds so that we can continue supporting Island families and help their children develop and flourish. It will also serve as an important information hub for families to make contact with us and gain access to useful advice and support when they need it as well as meet other people facing similar issues.”
Three years and counting
The charity, which has just celebrated its third birthday, also helps eligible families meet the cost of travel to and from mainland hospitals to access medical treatment, therapy and care, including premature babies who are transferred off the Island.
In addition, it raises money to purchase specialist aids and equipment that are not available on the NHS to help children progress and make their lives more comfortable.
Amazing support from all the local businesses
Daisy Chains IW’s Kellie Lawrence added:
“We have been overwhelmed by the amazing support from all the local businesses that have helped us get our new cafe off the ground. A big thank you must go to Howdens Lake, Tile Superstore Newport, Day by Day flooring, Novum Law, Jim Livingstone, Richard Smith, Nicky Blackshaw, Phil from Beach Gardens and Danny from Legends, Spencers Decorated Glass and Neil and Mike for all their assistance.
“This is the culmination of many months of hard work – it started as a dream to help as many children and their families as possible and thanks to our sponsors, it’s becoming a reality.”
Kids Cafe on Sandown High Street will be open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
