The Friends of St Mary’s Hospital funded a £119 light projector to be installed in the ultrasound rooms within the diagnostic imaging department at St Mary’s Hospital.
The mood light projection goes onto the ceiling and provides a welcomed distraction for patients to look at while having their ultrasound. This is particularly helpful for children and people living with dementia as some find the room to be too dark.
Rebecca Egerton, Sonographer, Isle of Wight NHS Trust said,
“We applied to the Friends of St Mary’s for 5 galaxy light projectors to help calm children whilst performing their ultrasound scan. We have to work in a darkened room so having something interesting to look at is an effective distraction.
“We found that patients with dementia and nervous patients also benefited from the relaxing mood lighting.
“Since installing the lights in all our ultrasound rooms, we get positive feedback every day and other departments have also expressed an interest in getting one.
“A big thank you to the Friends for making this possible.”
