New Volunteer Ambulance Car Service Drivers welcomed by Isle of Wight NHS Trust

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust Ambulance Service Patient Transport Service team (PTS) has welcomed three new Volunteer Ambulance Car Service (VACS) drivers.

Jean-Francois, Paul, and Tim will support the PTS team in transporting eligible patients to non-urgent local and mainland out-patient appointments.

The drivers have completed specific training to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide this support safely and effectively. They will be using Isle of Wight NHS Trust PTS Ambulance Service vehicles, including hybrid models.

Louise Walker, Ambulance Education, Training and Engagement Lead, said that the impact and value of volunteering cannot be underestimated, and that volunteers can greatly reduce pressures across services.

Plans to double the number of NHS volunteers by 2030
Mark Stevens, PTS Service Delivery Officer, said that the support from the new volunteers will help the service to continue providing an outstanding level of care and support to patients.

The service also supports the NHS long-term plan to double the number of volunteers in the NHS by 2030.
