Two Wightlink new generation catamarans begin their service between Portsmouth and Ryde Pier Head today.
Forming part of a multi-million pound investment by WightLink, Wight Ryder I and Wight Ryder II, which were built in the Philippines, have travelled 9,100 miles to work on our waters.
It’s said that the new generation catamarans should provide a more comfortable sailing, and due to improvements to the berthing capabilities shimmying up in the docks should be easier during bad weather conditions.
The ships also have fancy new electronic management systems which should result in fuel savings making them more environmentally friendly .
We’re told that this equates to a reduction in emissions equivalent to over 3.4 million kg CO2.
