News reaches us that the High Court this morning ruled that Wightlink’s decision to run new larger ferries is in breach of the European habitats directive.
There’ll be cheers all round at the Lymington River Association who have been fighting against the new bigger W-class ferries, claiming they were harmful to bird and marine life habiting to the protected mudflats and salt marshes rich. However, the ruling won’t stop the ferries running.
We’ve contacted Wightlink for a statement and update once we hear back.
