Work to demolish Newport Football Club’s former clubhouse and grandstand on St George’s Way, Newport has been completed.

The development by South Coast Leisure has seen the football ground’s buildings totally demolished and the site continues to be cleared to make way for the approved retail park.

Retail Park funding new ground
This will unlock funding for the creation of Newport FC’s new home off The Racecourse. A key planning condition for the proposed retail park on the St George’s Way site is that it can only be opened once a new football ground at the Racecourse is operational.

The new retail park — immediately opposite ASDA — will feature the likes of Costa, McDonald’s and Aldi

The new ground
The new ground on The Racecourse will feature its own clubhouse, as well as a grandstand overlooking an all-weather floodlit pitch.

South Coast Leisure say that when not being used by Newport FC, the facility will also be available for community use.
