Newport Harbour Conservation Society: Call For Volunteers

A new charity has been set up to help protect the future of Newport Harbour.

Newport HarbourThe Newport Harbour Conservation Society is the brainchild of Robert Turner, resident at Newport Quay.

Robert believes that Newport Harbour is at risk of inappropriate redevelopment. He has set up The Newport Harbour Conservation Society with, he says, the aim of fostering a transparent, accountable, sustainable and imaginative Harbour.

He believes it will have the advantage of partial separation from the Isle of Wight council and financial independence, reducing the risk and cost to the Council.

Empowering local users and businesses
In addition, it’s hoped that the Newport Harbour Conservation Society will empower local users and businesses to engage in the conservation, promotion, improvement and maintenance of the harbour and giving the Harbour Community a sense of ownership and fraternity.

Appeal for volunteers
Robert tells us that volunteers to be involved with the Society are needed and he’s appealing for members of the public concerned about the future of Newport Harbour to come forward.

There are currently positions available for a Secretary, Treasurer and General members.
