Newton Faulkner Interview (podcast)

Last Sunday night we were lucky enough to be two of the 400+ people who filled Medina Theatre to capacity as Newton Faulkner brought his tour to the Isle of Wight.

Newton Faulkner Interview (podcast)We understand that tickets for the event (originally scheduled for January but postponed due to a broken wrist) sold out within an hour and after the performance we can see why.

We’ll have a fuller review coming sometime soon on VB but in the meantime thought we’d share the short catch up with did with Newton Faulkner after the gig.

We had to wait sometime, as the queue for photos and autographs seemed to grow every five minutes, so once we did manage to grab some time with him, we kept it short as he was pretty tired and hungry.

As anyone who has witnessed his live performance will testify, Newton Faulkner has a fantastic skill of breaking down the barriers and drawing the audience in.

Certainly at this gig, he had the audience in the palm of his hand almost instantly. His performance was outstanding and we left feeling totally invigorated.

He told us that the gig he played at the 2008 Isle of Wight Festival was, he considered, his best yet and from the buzz around the bar before we went into the theatre, we seemed to be the general consensus.

The Medina gig was a far more relaxed and personal affair, leaving you feeling as though he was playing just for you. Very special.

This is one musician who we reckon is going to go a long way. He’s amazingly talented and comes across as a really lovely guy.

Anyway, as we said, a fuller review will be on the way soon – in the meantime, here’s Newton Faulkner. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/newton-faulkner.mp3]

Many thanks to Lottie Faulkner for sorting us out with what were undeniably the best seats in the house – right in front of the sound and lighting desk.
