This in from Gretel Ingham, IOW Locality Manager for Help and Care – supporting the Isle of Wight Local Involvement Network (LINk). In her own words. Ed
The NHS on the Island is proposing that it splits its services into two arms – one for the provision of services (which would stay on the Island) and one for the commissioning of services, which would be split between local and national bodies.
This means that national bodies could control things like the commissioning of our pharmacy and dentistry – deciding what we need.
Island to lose subsidy
The LINk is concerned about this element and also the fact that the Island will lose its subsidy – extra money that takes the Island’s circumstances into account – the fact that Islanders have to travel to the mainland for specialist services and the services that have to be provided to the Island’s large prison population.
These costs would now have to be met from the same budget as everything else. The LINk would like to hear your views on these changes.
