NHS Isle of Wight is delighted to announce the re-appointment of its Chairman, Danny Fisher.
Danny Fisher has been Chairman since October 2006 when NHS Isle of Wight was first established as a Primary Care Trust and, uniquely in English healthcare, given authority to be a combined Commissioner for all health care on the Island and a Provider of Acute, Community, Mental Health, Learning Disability, Ambulance Services and Prison Healthcare.
Ingrained in Island life
A resident of the Isle of Wight, Danny Fisher, is a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the Island and a former High Sheriff. He spent over 20 years as Managing Director of a major national software and systems house.
Prior to this he was an Army Officer, commanding the largest regiment in the British Army. When not on duty as Chairman of NHS Isle of Wight, Mr Fisher spends time as Chairman of a Renewable Energy Business and sits on several charity boards.
Hospital successes
Mr Fisher’s highlights from the past four years include reaching and sustaining financial and clinical targets every year, the NHS 60th anniversary, the opening of the new chemotherapy suite and the new Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU) building.
Kevin Flynn, Chief Executive at NHS Isle of Wight, said: “I am delighted that Danny has been re-appointed as Chairman and I look forward to us continuing to work together to ensure that we are commissioning and providing high quality health services for the Island’s residents.”
This re-appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Mr Fisher has declared he has not undertaken any political activity and he holds no other ministerial appointments.
The appointment runs from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2014. The post will receive a remuneration of £34,152 per annum.
