Thanks to John from Bembridge RNLI for details of this call-out last night. In his own words. Ed
Following an urgent phone call to the Solent Coastguard rescue centre Wednesday evening from the 8m Rib “Rebellion” the Bembridge RNLI Tamar class lifeboat “Alfred Albert Williams” was immediately launched at 19.17 hours.
Engine failure caused problems
The Rib “Rebellion” with eight people on board was night diving in the Bembridge ledge area and following an engine failure were unable to recover three of their divers.
With the Lifeboat station under half a mile away from the diving area, the Lifeboat was on scene within four minutes and had located and recovered the three divers within ten minutes of launching.
With the engine problem being experienced on Rebellion and with the deteriorating weather conditions it was decided to tow the rib into the Camber dock area of Portsmouth harbour which was completed by 20.45.
