Andy Lane from Freshwater, like many others, regularly walks his dog on the beach at Colwell Bay.
For some time, signage has explained that dogs are not permitted on the beach to the left (towards Totland) of the slipway between 1st May to 30th September.
So you can imagine Andy’s surprise when, last week, he spotted ‘No Dogs’ signage had been placed along the beach to the right of the slipway, the area where dog walkers have been able to walk their dogs all year round.
Andy said,
“Perhaps it’s a mistake, but it’s just yet another way of upsetting responsible dog owners who enjoy the beach and who also pick up rubbish left by our important ‘holidaymakers’.”
IWC: Will be rectified
Rather than just run a story on this, OnTheWight sought a solution from the council and Island Roads (who it turned out had nothing to do with the signage).
A spokesperson for the council said,
“The signs were erected by council contractors and were put up in the wrong location due to an error on their behalf.
“The contractors will be rectifying the error by Wednesday.”

Let us know of any other errors
If you’re a dog walker, we’d suggest you double check the main signage to check which sections of the beach you can/can’t take your dog on.
If you spot any more errors, let us know and we’ll pass it onto the council.
