A couple of months ago, we went along to the unveiling of the Nodehill Centenary Public Mural. During our conversations with headteacher David Morris, the subject of school closures came up.
Given the fact Nodehill will close as a middle school under the new two tier system and as announced today, that the site will NOT remain in use as part of the reorganistion, we thought it timely to publish our chat with David.
Hearing about how well equipped Nodehill is; four computer rooms, banks of computers around the school, there are interactive white-boards in all classroom, teacher have their own laptops, etc., we’re amazed by the council’s decision with regard to keeping the site open.
Technology has really been embraced by all at the school and through the use of video conferencing, David explains how the teachers have taken part in teacher training with schools in the US and France through the webcam.
Technology is not the future, it is here now and we can’t escape that.
Nodehill are definitely trailing a path in terms of what they offer as a school on the Wight. Making it all the more galling that they’ll be closed and the site reused for another purpose.
The podcast cuts in at the point where closure of Nodehill is being discussed.
