The Victorian Society is once again calling on the public to nominate vulnerable Victorian and Edwardian buildings for its upcoming Top Ten Endangered Buildings list.
This campaign, now a vital annual tradition, aims to identify neglected or deteriorating buildings across England and Wales that are at risk of further decay or even demolition.
Campaign to save historical architecture
Each year, the Society’s Top 10 Endangered Buildings campaign highlights structures of architectural and historical significance that are in desperate need of restoration.
The publicity generated by this campaign can play a crucial role in drawing attention to buildings that might otherwise remain forgotten. Increased awareness through media coverage often helps secure the future of these historical sites.

Griff Rhys Jones urges public participation
Griff Rhys Jones, the President of the Victorian Society, is encouraging people to consider nominating buildings that are threatened with decay or destruction.
Griff stated,
“The Top 10 Endangered Buildings list is coming up again.
“I urge you to consider nominating a building. We get publicity and genuine help for threatened heritage from it.”
He added that the campaign’s visibility has a tangible impact, noting its role in mobilising over two thousand objections against redevelopment plans for Liverpool Street Station.
“The fight has to go on, especially in these times when we need to make an even stronger case for the value of heritage and informed recycling.”
How to nominate a building
To submit a nomination, individuals should email [email protected] with the following details:
- the building’s year of construction,
- location,
- listed status,
- a brief description of its historical or architectural importance, and
- any current threats it faces.
Nominations should also include at least one quality photo of the building. Only buildings in England or Wales, constructed between 1837 and 1914, are eligible, with preference given to listed buildings.
The deadline for nominations is set for 31st December 2024. See The Victorian Society website for more information about their work.
