As reported earlier in the year, the Isle of Wight’s registration service at Northwood House moves to Newport tomorrow (1st October).
From tomorrow wedding and civil ceremonies, as well as registration of birth and death, will take now place at Seaclose Park in Newport.
We understand that the very last wedding at Northwood House took place last weekend and the first wedding at Seaclose will take place this Saturday.
A choice of venues
The council tell us that as well as the small statutory wedding room at Seaclose, there is also the choice of a larger room to use at weekends.
If you don’t fancy that location, the Ventnor Botanic Garden has just been granted a wedding license, so you might prefer to get married there or perhaps one of the other 20+ venues around the Island.
Archived registers not immediately available
Unfortunately, as the archived registers are not being stored at Seaclose, if you need to access anything, you’ll have to order it in advance, as there will no longer be a while you wait service.
Order either online, over the phone, or in writing to the Superintendent Registrar along with the correct fee.
The Isle of Wight Family History Society website also provides an invaluable resource for researching and ordering copy certificates.
Further details about the council’s Register service can be found on the council Website or by calling 01983 823233.
