This coming Saturday a one-day rally taking place in Newport, Isle of Wight will become part of the – now Worldwide – Occupy movement.
As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the Occupy Isle Of Wight group was formed in solidarity with the 2,500 other protests around the world, with plans to hold a peaceful protest in St Thomas’ Square.
Island residents concerned about a range of issues affecting Islanders, such as the cuts to public services, loss of amenities and wide-spread redundancies are planning to gather at St Thomas’ Square on Saturday from noon.
Organisers have been co-operating with the Police and confirm that they have a number of volunteers marshalling on the day, along with qualified SIAs (trained security staff) to support the Police.
A Facebook group set up to raise awareness for the event.
