Island artist, Marius von Brasch has worked both as a practising artist and psychotherapist for many years.
This exhibition presents two recent series of Marius’ paintings on hardwood panels and some related works on paper.
For Marius, painting is a way of exploring and expressing a powerful driving force within and the resulting creative dialogue is a gateway to unexpected discoveries and resolutions on a personal, artistic and societal level. Marius’ approach comes from his longstanding interest in the connections between communication, creativity and psychological processes involved.
When he embarks on a new series of paintings he makes an active and intellectual response to the emotions that trigger the creative process.
A theme evolves and leads on a journey of exploration, the outcome of which combines conscious and subconscious elements.
His painting process begins by priming the wooden panels with spontaneous brush marks; this then becomes integral to the entire composition.
Marius’ painting recognises and develops the visual and narrative possibilities of these, resulting in a body of work both visually and conceptually stimulating.
Marius has exhibited widely in the South and has been running workshops; helping people to find and develop their creativity. He is currently working on his MA in Winchester School of Art.
