Police have confirmed that a number of old style Rover Minis and Mini Coopers have been targeted for fuel thefts since the end of September 2012.
According to Newport Police, the fuel caps are being broken off and fuel is being syphoned out of them. They say that at least five incidents have been reported in Newport and Carisbrooke area since the end of September.
Police are advising anyone who has these types of vehicles parked on their driveway or by their homes to try parking the vehicle with the fuel cap closest to a wall so it is difficult to get access to it or to park vehicles near to street lamps.
