An open air dedication service of the 2016 sailing season, being held on The Parade at Cowes this coming Sunday (1st May), will include the blessing of the local RNLI lifeboat.
The lifeboat, ‘Sheena Louise’, an Atlantic 85, has been in service with the local station since 2012.
New vicar brings fresh ideas
In the past an annual sailing season service has taken place at Holy Trinity – ‘The Yachtsman’s Church’.
The new vicar, the Rev Andrew Poppe, however thought it would be a good idea to have an open air service this time, with Holy Trinity only taking on the role if the weather is too bad.
The service starts at 6pm, and people are invited to come by land and sea, with Cowes Harbour Commission providing free moorings for the event at Trinity Landing. And as the Rev Poppe has been made the lifeboat station’s first chaplain it seemed only natural the craft and crew should be invited to be among those at the landing.
Collection for vital services
Music will be provided by Cowes Concert Band, and the collection from the service will be divided between the RNLI and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
